Primary School Destinations:
Papatoetoe East Primary School
This modern library environment is described as "the heart and hub of learning in the school". The specialist information literacy teacher works with students to encourage a love of reading and to develop the skills and strategies necessary to become "active seekers, users and creators of knowledge". Decile 2, contributing, over 500 students with a high Pasifika, Asian and Maori roll.
Redoubt North School
Opened in 2013, this remodeled library features a giant television, touch screen computers, portholes and tunnels as well as a collection of over 4,000 titles. An inspiring and magical space for the more than 650 students from Pasifika, Maori and Asian backgrounds. Decile 2, full primary.
Secondary School Destinations:
Ormiston Senior College
Opened in 2011, Ormiston Senior College has a strong philosophy of personalized learning which is actively supported by the school's library manager. Requirements for this role: to be forward thinking, push the boundaries, flexible and highly responsive to students' needs. The library is central to students' learning with a librarian who is always looking for new ways to find information seeking which will develop students who are responsible for their own learning. Decile 7, Years 11-13. Over 300 students.
The Auckland campus is one of over 11 Westmount sites around the country. Innovation in education is central to the school maintaining a cutting edge approach to learning. The Learning Centre was developed with international experts on best practice in educational environments and is seen as the "heart of each school", supporting different learning styles, with different zones to accommodate collaboration, focussed work and personal responsibility for one's own learning.
